    win98 here
I was having some problems at some game sites w/graphic and am getting the usual run around from them (Internet Tools/Delete Files - I thought everyone did this all the time)
    So I tried:
Control Panel>Add/Remove>clicked on IE6 and said to repair/fix it.
Restarted and still had the same problem.
    Next:
    Windows Update
    Ran all the criticals (reboot)
    Back to Windows Update
They show I need an update from SiS from 6/6/02
I just got everything new in 8/03 (except for my C/D and A drives)
When I try to download this update from WinUpdate I get this message:
    Unable to back up C:\Windows\System\SiSInst.dll
Then it asks if I want to continue.
    I said no -
    What should I do?
BTW, the video card is SiS 900 PCI
    Thanks

when it askes you to continue, you say yes.

but, if there is a problem with the new install, you may have more problems due to the fact SIS could not be backed up. But, thats how it goes sometimes. I would download new drivers, install, and then write back with any further problems.

They are basically asking if you want to install the update without saving the older drivers. If your saying that you need updated drivers in the first place you have nothing to lose.

    Thanks!
I kept trying to download it yesterday and it wouldn't work.
I finally got it to download this morning - it then went into install as usual.
Now it's showing that the install has finished, and the screen has never come back to say it's finished. It's just stuck on that little screen showing the download is done and the
meter shows the install is done.
After just letting it sit there for an hour it's still just sitting there.
I think I'll reboot and start over.

Post back if it worked as we could probably get the updated version form another site.

    Thanks, Mobo,
It worked - I can't tell any difference though.

Sometimes it can be very subtle changes. How about the windows update site, have you tried it again ?

    Thanks,
The windows update went through just fine.
I finally figured out what I think was the problem w/the driver update.
When the window came up w/the question about proceeding I clicked to continue
Somehow a second window w/the same question about not being able to back up was open too.
The next time I tried I made sure that all the little windows were closed.
