Solved: Dual boot question

    If I am dual booting server 2000 and server 2003, does server 2003 have to be the 1st OS to be installed?

    Cause I know someone will ask, please don't ask why I am doing this.

    rule of thumb is install the oldest first then the newer OS. In your case that would be 2000 then 2003. But you don't have to follow that rule if you know how to repair or prevent the issue.

    If installing 2003 first backup the files ntldr, ntdetect and boot.ini. After the 2000 install you restore those files and add the 2000 boot entry in the boot.ini.

    The 2003 version of those files can boot 2000. The 2000 version of those files can't boot 2003.
