My ASUS P4V8X-X Motherboard does not support running in dual channel mode. But can I still run dual channel DDR PC3200 400mhz non-ecc unbuffered ram in it? Seems I could, but I won't have the additional performance gains of running in dual channel mode. Does anyone know for certain if I can or can't?
Yes you can, if it's supported by the board. Check either Asus' site or the RAM's mfg site, if you find them compatible, it will work in single channel.
ED: even though it can't be found on Asus site supported list, there's a BIG chance that it will work. If it's not found on the manufacturer list(if they have one and other similar memories are found there) there's very much lower chance of working, but it still might.
The board supports PC3200 DDR 400Mhz memory modules non-ecc and unbuffered memory. The modules in question are Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 1024mb PC3200 DDR 400Mhz non-ecc and unbuffered. The book, however, does not list this brand in the book of "known" compatible sticks. The P4V8X-X motherboard specs can be viewed online via their website. It's a socket 478 if you try to look it up. This board can NOT run in dual channel mode.
Here's a screenshot of the manual stating the memory types supported:
If they are not on the QVL list it just means they have not been tested with your board.
The chances are they will work ok but you are not going to know until they are hooked up.
Have you purchased the ram yet?
To guarantee ram will work go here http://www.crucial.com/
Thanks a bunch for the help. I haven't purchased them as of yet. But I will tonight!!!!
