Solved: DVD CD ROM dont read discs

    HI guys its me again :eek:

    Now I have a situation with my DVD ROM , It dont read any disc o write , when I place the disc in the tray ,it goes in , the light green shines, then Stops . NADA , well...... ok I went to the device manager and check it out and discover this message :

    Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

    the model its a : HL- DT - ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B running XP
    I have the disc of LG DVD Writer Solution , but cannot read it , then I go my computer I can see 31/2 Floopy(A: ) Local Disk(C: ) but no DVD(D: ) its gonne:confused:

    did you open your case recently?
    Perhaps a lose cable or the drive died.

    no I havent open the case . the HL - DT _ ST DVDRAM - GSA-4167B has a ! at the start in YELLOW .

    well if the computer isnt seeing the drive anymore, that means that it is no longer communicating with the drive. The drive might have failed.

    this one was working perfectly today I uninstall Nero 7 and inside Nero I notice was INCD , after uninstall NERO7 ask me to reboot , then teh DVD was GONNE !! :(
    then I saw the ! yellow as I say in the device manager , Im pretty confused , what to do ? should I open the case and check the cables ? or its a driver in conflict of bus? IRQ?
    Help guys .

    OK Augie 65 did you know how to open and where ?
    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

    because I download the guided help and its already 40 mins . and the program dont finish , its kind of stuck it say Resolve CD access problem . please wait .:confused:
    for 40 mins??!! it just have to delete 2 entries of regs. to slow so I decide take the chance to delete it by hand , but i dont kow how to open the Regedt32.exe.
    pls . can you point me in theright direction to do it manually thanks.

    First, create a restore point in System Restore. Just in case you have problems.
    Now to delete the filters in the registry.
    Start> Run> type: regedit then hit OK.
    Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Then go to System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/

    Click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters.
    Click Edit on the menu bar.
    Click Delete, and then click OK.
    On the right hand side of the window, click LowerFilters.
    Click Edit on the menu bar.
    Click Delete, and then click the OK.
    Close the registry and,

    Reboot the computer.

    Thank you very much for your guidance , I delete those entries and reboot my computer , wentt to my device manager and check, if all was oki in there (y) is all ok , so then I place a cd in the tray ,and the DVD rom read the info inside the cd (y) all ok , haven't try yet to burn somthing or make a data dvd , but all seems fine .
    I think I can make this post solved WEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee !!!:p
