How can I edit a PDF file from a vendor in order to bring the pages up to date for a roster book in order for them to print an "up -to-Date " roster book ?

If the protection was set to disallow this then you will not be able to.

But you can run it through a OCR program, and make your own Word file and then do the editing. Then you can make your own PDF file.

Some PDFs allow you to edit text directly within the PDF. However, the majority of the time you would need to do as DaveA suggested, and OCR the PDF and save it as a Word doc for editing.

Alternatively, if you have Adobe Photoshop then you can import the PDF and edit it as an image.

Not all PDF files are scanned documents and require OCR to convert them to DOC. PDF files created from Microsoft Word, for example, typically contain images, text and formatting.

They can be converted to editable DOC files using a number of utilities, including Solid Converter PDF, Nitro PDF and PDF Transformer.

    What does OCR mean ?

I am an old 73 year old guy who started with DOS and Basic - on an old Computor with a tape recorder instead of a hard drive and the TV (black & white) for a monitor.
    Thanks for all your help.

OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. Basically it takes an image and tries to recognize characters to form words. Giving you live, editable text.

Most of the scanners come with a "Lite" version of a OCR program. Check the CD or Guide that came with your scanner
