Well I am doing some internal website testing.

I am using Apache and am trying to edit my HOSTS file to make things easier on the local network.

I can open, and edit the file fine....but it won't let me save it. Gives me a error that it is being used etc.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

    It says cannot create:

    C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
Make sure that the path and filename are correct.

    Yup I have admin access.

(amazing that hackers can change and edit the hosts file without a thought....but I am having a hell of a time! )

    run from cmd(start\run:"cmd"):
    cacls C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    attrib C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    and post both outputs

You want to donate you can click on the donate button beside thread tools it allows you to acess the website ad free and have a bigger avatar.

The above command will turn off the read-only flag. You can turn it back on by entering this command (attrib +r C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) which is supposed to help stop virus and spyware adding entries in to disallow access to virus scan updates and patches.
