Error 80070490 is the message. I did Microsoft fix-it, which said it fixed the error but did not. I did a sfc/scannow and got a message it saw something wrong but it did not fix it. Where to now? Thanks in advance.

I left out, the PC is a Gateway and I checked for updates from them. None. I did their recovery program. No help. I have gone thru and made sure all the Intel stuff is up to date.

Hard drive checked okay (thanks for reminding me). I finally bit the bullet and searched thru the Gateway options. They had one that allowed me to copy the pc into a backup file and then restore all the factory defaults. Very time consuming, but it worked. It took a total of about 5 hours to complete as I had to reinstall 137 important and 86 optional windows updates. Everything is working fine now. Thanks.
