    Hi
    Has any body got any idea of what this error message is and how to clear it.I have tried the usual clean up systems with no success, it won't let me use some programs and the systems icon in the contol panel is affected and there is no restore available.

    You could post your HijackThis log and see if anything shows up

    Download HijackThis to your desktop
    • Close all open windows
    • Double click on HJTSetup.exe on your Desktop
    • Click Run and Install
    • It will install to Program files by default
    • it will launch Hijack This
    • Click on "scan system and save a logfile" usually in notepad
    • Copy and Paste the logfile in your next post
    • Using Ctrl+A to copy All and Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

    Hi Megabite/ Judy

    The error message comes up when I try to use the systems icon in the control panel and when I try to use System Restore as;

    "Run a DLL as an app has encountered a problem and and needs to close" When I click for more information on the message box it comes up with;

    EventType : BEX P1 : rundll32.exe P2 : 5.1.2600.5512 P3 : 480252d5
    P4 : srrstr.dll P5 : 5.1.2600.5512 P6 : 4802a144 P7 : 0001cb54
    P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000

    If I click again for more details this comes up
    C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9cd8.dir00\rundl l32.exe.mdmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9cd8.dir00\appco mpat.txt

    Regarding Uniblue Registry Booster,I have used this but it did not effect the error mesage,your opinion
    on this please should I keep it or delete it ?

    Thank you for your patience.

    Personally I do not use any program that mess with the Registry........also SpeedUpMyPC shoule be suspect...my suggestion would be to remove them and restart the PC. That is Uniblue Registry Booster and SpeedMyPC.

    If you have the XP disc put it in the CD drive.......then Click Start>>Run type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

    Typing this will start the program, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

    Hi megabite,

    Sorry no joy with sfc /scannow, it went through the checking process but did not give any details of any problems it just went of the screen.

    When this problem shows it also states "Generic Host Process for win 32 services has a problem and needs to close"

    Have a nice day. Wakefield

    Hi Megabite

    We were going round in circles so I decided to format the hard drive and re-instal every thing
    which I am pleased to say has cured the problem.

    Many thanks for your help
