So recently my PC has been extremely laggy. This was not an issue a few months ago. Of course im not the only one who uses this PC but I don't know of any recent additions that could have caused the issue. I have Malware scans, and Virus scans scheduled weekly which run on Sunday night. The lastest scans did not identify an issue. When I check out task manager SVCHOST is always #1 in usage running from about 200,000k to the highest ive seen is 850,000k. So there seems to be some service which is causing the issue. But I don't know of a way to determine which service it is to prevent this issue.

I have a run of the mill walmart pc with Windows 7 and 4gb ram theres nothing special to it. Its used for Internet (Chrome Browser) - We watch Youtube, Netflix and stream to our Chromecast, facebook, and Skype. Recently I've added Bluestacks which is an android emulation program. The issue occured before this program was installed, and does not seem more severe since its installation.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Go here, then click the large blue "Download Now @ Bleeping Computer" button to download and save AdwCleaner.exe to your desktop.

Close all open windows first, then double-click AdwCleaner.exe to load its main window.

Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
(Note: Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts, so be patient.)

    Click the "Logfile" button.

When the log appears, save it.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

Note: After you submit the log, close AdwCleaner. When the warning appears, click "Yes".

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Click Start, then type MSCONFIG in the search or run box, then press the Enter key.

When the small "System Configuration" window appears, click the "Startup" tab.

Write down ONLY the names in the "Startup Item" column that have a checkmark next to them.

If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

Submit those names here in a vertical list.

Make sure to spell them EXACTLY as you see them there.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Close all open windows first, then double-click AdwCleaner.exe to load its main window.

Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
(Note: Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts, so be patient.)

Click the "Cleaning" button, then click "OK".

Allow the cleaning process to finish.

When it's finished, click "OK" in each window that appears.

    The computer will restart.

When the log appears during restart, save it.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Uncheck these startup entries:

    utorrent

    Google Update

    Google Chrome

    Steam Client Bootstrapper

    APSDaemon

    Java Platform SE Auto Updater

    After you're done, click Apply - OK/Close - Restart.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Go here, then click the large blue "Download Now @ Author's Site" button to download and save TFC.exe (Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer) to your desktop.

After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.

Double-click it to load its main window.

    Click the "Start" button.

If there are a large number of temp files or if there are multiple user accounts, the temp file deletion process may appear to freeze and may take a few minutes, so don't interfere with or abort it.

After it's finished, restart the computer.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

The 1 TB hard drive in that computer is about 78% full, so I'm guessing it's loaded with personal data and/or installed programs, add-ons, plug-ins, etc..

Some "de-cluttering" and backing up is needed so more free space can be reclaimed and you don't risk permanently losing your personal data.

The above procedure will probably reclaim several hundred MB's of free space.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

After you're done with post #4, run the computer for awhile and see if speed and "snappiness" has improved.

I'm getting ready to shut down for the night, so I'll check back here in the morning. (y)

After you're done with posts #4 and #5, repeat the last part of post #2 and submit a new TSGSIU log so I can check the updated status of the hard drive's used space and free space.

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 645 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 5 Stepping 3
    Processor Count: 4
    RAM: 3839 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, 256 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: Total - 933767 MB, Free - 406816 MB; E: Total - 99 MB, Free - 33 MB;
    Motherboard: Acer, Aspire X1420G
Antivirus: avast! Antivirus, Updated and Enabled

    ---

Update: Things have certainly changed. I found lots of family photos/videos and have backed them up to an external Drive. I've had a few lag spikes or "lock ups", but they are not as frequent and don't tend to last as long. I also have not seen svchost get close to 200,000k let alone above that.

    About 78% full

    About 56% full

That's much better. You've reclaimed about 200 GB of free space. (y)

Doing that contributed to most of the free space you reclaimed.

It also prevented you from permanently losing all that data if Windows 7 had crashed or the hard drive had died. (y)

Let's work on the services list next and see if we can reduce the startup load even more and give that computer more speed and "snappiness".

    -------------------------------------------------------

Click Start, then type SERVICES.MSC in the search or run box, then press the Enter key.

When the "Services" window appears, expand it so you can see the list more clearly.

Write down ONLY the names in the "Name" column that have their startup type set on Automatic and Automatic(Delayed Start).

If the "Name" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

Submit those names here in a vertical list and in alphabetical order.

Make sure to spell them correctly.

Personally, I would get rid of Spybot - Search & Destroy and replace it with the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware.

If you decide to do that, advise me so I can give you instructions for installing and setting it up.

Advise me when you've completed post #11.

Run the computer for awhile afterwards to see if speed and "snappiness" has improved.
