Ok I am trying to set up my parents external cd writer... its a older dell computer with win xp on it... thte cd writer is a hp cd-writer 8200 series. In the device manager it shows its there and nothing wrong with the installation. However when I go to burn to it.. it will not allow me to.. when I use nero I only get the option to burn an image and not burn to the device. I am probably missing something easy but I can't seem to figure it out.. Can anyone help me please.. thanks here are the messages I get using burnatonce to burn the things

    CD-R empty : yes

First off, if this is an older Dell, it probably doesn't have USB 2.0 ports. You'll be severely limited in burning speed if that's the case, 4x is the fastest reliable speed on USB 1.1.

You might consider trying one of these free burning applications, see if this is a general issue.

i got it to work using alcohol 120% it works.. and the cdburnerpro 3 will burn the mp3 files thank you... thhe other one wouldnt recognize a external cdburner.. same goes for burnatonce and nero.

this case is solved.. only some programs will recognize an external cdburner.
