ok so i bought the usb external enclosure to use as a second hard drive on my laptop...i used it to transfer files etc then i formatted the whole thing so it was empty..although i did notice about 30 megs or so difference between the size of the hd and the amount available even thuogh i had formatted it using fdisk as i recall....
it was worknig fine for me but i plugged in in recently and xp detects it comes up with the 3 yellow baloons i.e new device, recognised device and then it says hardware is worknig and ready to use..you know the usual 3 baloons
    THE PROBLEM=
the drive used to be on display in my computer..now it is not...i go to harware mangager on control panel and it tells me my divce is there and woeknig correctly along with my modem and infra red mouse also usb.
SO YOU SEE..i cannot acces of find the drive anyhwhere on xp to use it!
help wil lbe so much appreciated

Right click on My Computer, Manage, Disk Management.

See what disk management has to say about your external drive.

The fact that it thinks all of the space is unallocated seems to indicate it's not formatted. I have no idea what happened, but it sounds like it's time to format it. :)

Disk management should allow for format.

Right click on the drive graphic in Disk Management, create a partition and format the drive.

Then you aren't looking in the right place for disk management.

Right click on my computer from the start button, manage, then go to disk management.
