I have a five machine TCP/IP peer-to-peer network using DHCP from my router. The network generally works reliably, and no other problems can be seen that appear to be related to my issue. Four of the machines run WinXP, and one runs Win98.

I am having file sharing problems between two of the WinXP machines. I have folders on my machine that are shared with "Everyone" read permissions. With one exception, the other computers have no difficulty reaching these folders.

My wife's computer, however, can browse the folders, but only sees some of the files in the folder in Explorer, and she cannot reach these files via CLI. Other files effectively do not exist. There appears to be no difference between files she can see and files she can't. In a folder with four .avi files she will see all four, or three, or two, or even only one. This will sometimes happen to files she could previously see earlier in the same day, witth neither computer having rebooted in the meantime.

I have reset TCP/IP, checked the permissions, and removed my desktop firewall. The problem remains unabated.

Any suggestions for what might be causing this?
