    Hi
I have an Acer 5520 laptop pc and it doesn't have a firewire port.

Is there an adapter that I can use to change the firewire plug to USB?
The pc is still under warranty so I don't want to go opening it up to install a card.

    Thanks
    Netrom

What exact model number/name (Aspire, Travelmate..etc.)? All laptop models shown on the Acer website under 5520 show 4 USB ports and 1 Firewire port.............................and NO you can't get a Firewire to USB adapter as they run on different voltages and speed.

Firewire is a completely different animal from USB, so there can be no general-purpose adapter like there is for mice or other devices. But adapters for specific purposes do exist, like this one for digital video cameras:

    Thanks.
I have just realized that there is a firewire port...but it is different to the normal ones I'm used to. It's smaller, more like the plug on the video camera.
Do I need a special cable for this?
    It is an Aspire.
    Thanks again.
