xp, very new machine. When an explorer window is opened and A: drive is clicked with no floppy it will keep seeking and not stop and give message as usual. Ran thru support at Dell, useless. Swapped drive and cable. Drive went into other computer worked fine. Other computer drive went into this computer had same problem. Otherwise drive works OK. Anybody seen before?

Did if ever work properly??? If so points to controller failure.

Check the BIOS to ensure the proper floppy is selected.

You have eliminated the cable. Double check it is inserted correctly. Ensure power to drive. Try a spare power lead, ensure is properly seated.

There is a Microsoft troubleshooting guide for floppy's. Usually this has to be power, BIOS, cable, floppy drive itself or controller. My general hunch is points to a floppy drive controller failure.

XP is screwy with floppy's, you can go thru the control panel and see if it is detecting the drive and reporting any failures.

the disk or drive might be bad.

try plugging in the other end of the floppy cable to the floppy.
some won't work with both ends.
    btdt.

It was the controller which is embedded on the motherboard. Thanks.
