This is driving me nuts! I have no problems at all with connecting via the WWW and Firefox/IE. However, any attempt to use FTP results in a time-out. The FTP client site said to try pinging but I find that ping times out as well. Could someone please help a clueless non-techie? I have no idea how to even begin troubleshooting this.

    Thanks a bunch.

what site are you trying to get to?

it's common for a PING to time out... that's more likely due to the adminstrator of the site to block it. Same for FTP

I've tried many different sites for both ping and ftp. I first noticed the problem when I tried to establish an ftp link with my web hosting service. Spent about an hour with tech support and it boiled down to everything on their end was working properly and that the problem was on my end.

I had this problem with two of my sites (Both on the same server), and we figured it was something with Verizon. It was only resolved when the server changed its default FTP port. Verizon was no help at all.

Check to make sure that you do not have firewall software that is running that might be blocking the requests. Are you able to ping your ISP server addresses?

Well, I took the sledge hammer approach to resolving this problem. I bought a new PC (been meaning to do so - this pushed me over the brink) and everything works just fine. I'm not sure how to close this thread but it is no longer an issue for me. Thanks for your help, folks.
