I've never heard of an FTP Root File. What program created it?
What is the extension of the file?
Is it the same extension as on the PCs that can open it?
What program does it open in?
Do you have that program installed?
Can you create, save, and then open files of the same type?
Where are these files coming from?
If you are downloading them, copy a file that was downloaded on another PC to yours, see if you can open it then.

To change View Settings to show extensions:
In Windows Explorer, click on Tools | Folder Options -> View tab
Uncheck the following:

Hide extensions for known file types

Hi well the file is coming to me from a company that we are doing work for.
This is the message that comes with the email that should allow me to open this.

To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.

It doesn't work.. I am not sure what program this is they are using to send this file but it comes to me as an email and when its open its amenments to a job site..

Hope this helps..

It's not a file then, but a link to an FTP site on the Internet.
The link should look something like this:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com

Clicking the link should open the FTP site in your browser.
Should look like the first screen shot, with the FTP address in the Address bar.
You can access each folder or file here.
If you click Page and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer, it should open in Windows Explorer, like in the third screen shot.
It's easier to deal with multiple files using Windows Explorer.

Try it with the link to Microsoft's FTP site above. Does this work, or not?
If not, at what point does it fail?
Can you type the Microsoft ftp address directly into Windows Explorer?

Can you type the ftp address from the email into Internet or Windows Explorer, and access the FTP site that way?

Hi... yes that info you sent me is exactly what the files I receive look like.. But once I have them I can't access the info in the files..
I get the directory and name behind it, but when I click on the name I get nothing..
Thats where the problem is lying..
Thanks

Added two missing screen shots to the previous post.

Can you access anything from the Microsoft FTP Site?
If you get it to open in Windows Explorer, like in the 3rd screen shot above, double click on the last folder, Softlib.
Then drag the README.TXT file to your desktop.
Then Double click it and it should open in Notepad.

If you are in Internet Explorer, single click on Softlib, then you can click on README.TXT to open it in IE.
To save it on your PC you'd have to right click the README.TXT link, then click Save Target As, and select the folder you want to save the file in.
