Hi,

My hard drive failed a few days ago, I intend to buy a new one, plus an OEM copy of Vista and get things up and running again myself...very foolishly, though, when I threw away my failed hard drive, it still had the black dell cover attached. I'll still be able to slide a new hard drive into the bay and attach it with screws, but the back of it won't be covered, you'll be able to see inside my laptop. Will this pose any kind of problem? Will the new hard drive even work?

Thanks,

Jay-Ranger

Hi,
Are there any laptop repair shops near you that might have a spare cover they'll sell/give you?

A bit late to ask, but did you securely wipe the failed hard drive before disposing of it? Or do you now need to worry about someone recovering data, bank info etc?

Hi there,

Yeah there are definitely repair shops I know of, but I wasn't sure if they'd have anything for Dell laptops, considering they don't sell their systems in shops. It's something I'll check out though - as for the failed hard drive, I crushed it with a hammer before disposing of it so if someones able to recover my data from it now, frankly they deserve it. If I'm not able to find a cover for the bay, am I out of luck?

Thanks,

Jay-Ranger

Thanks, they sell the one I'm looking for on that website, unfortunately they don't ship to the UK though :(

Ha, I just happened to be looking through that website when you made your post. I've found the part and they do ship outside the US. Thanks everyone
