Trying to install a new drive into a Dell.
    It is a Maxtor 160GB ATA/100 drive.

Leaving the jumpers to CS, I attempted to use the Maxtor CD to install the drive.
When the computer boots up and in the BIOS the Harddrive is detected.
When running this CD it gets to a point where it says.
    Int 13 Level Communications
At... Int 13 IO to Drive 80 Drive Found
Next line is the same but drive 81 no Response

    ATA Level Communications
Attempting PM ATA identify -SN(SPADE Character)<
    < - invalid response
    Attempting PS ATA Identify

At this point the cursor is blinking. I left it go one time for like 20 mins and finally went into this Maxtor Program. When it first goes in it finds the drive and says what do you wan to do with it.

But when I would go into the section to Format or partition it. It tells me NO MAXTOR drive has been found.

I really just wanted to use this as a second hd just enough to install the back up from my Nortons Ghost 12. But like I said. Even in the Norton Ghost it is not finding the drive to install the Image....

    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks..

It might be a fault with the hard drive.... try putting it in another computer and see if that does anything.

If it still does nothing, try RMAing it.

Ya I tried that in my other computer and stil nothing. I am going to see if Best Buy will swap it out. If not I have to buy one and have them RMA it.

    Thanks

Yes it was a bad drive. I purchased a new drive and worked great.
