I am trying to read two IDE PATA hdds with my reader. And it won't turn them on. The device gets recognized, however the Drive That I attach it too does not. There is no manual here, and I don't know where I am going wrong, this device did read a Laptop 2.5 HDD, but not any 3.5" PATAS.. Do You think The reader itself is bad? Also when I hook external Power Via Red usb Connector or the 12v plug it still does not start the IDE PATA Drive to even spin? the Jumper settings I reconfigured but I don't think they would have any effect any way.. Any Suggestions, Much Appreciatede..

If the drive is not spinning up, it usually points to a power supply problem.

2.5 inch pata drives take their power from the one connector (ie, the IDE cable itself), but a 3.5 inch drive requires power from a molex connector.

If there is a power connection to the drive itself, and it is still not working, it could be worth getting hold of a multimeter and testing the power cable to see if there is a voltage on it.

Do you have either a photo of the adapter itself, or, even better a website/tech spec sheet outlining what the adapter supports?

It's also worth checking the jumpers again, as these do make a difference when hookng 2 drives up to the same reader.

They must be set in one of 2 configurations. Either,
    1) one drive is master and the other is slave,

    or,

    2) both must be set to cable select.

I've had readers before which only work in master/slave, and some which only work in c/s mode - its trial and error as to which works.
