Solved: Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia'

    Hi everyone. I keep getting this error message when I attempt to watch YouTube videos. I've read through all pages of solutions regarding this problem on a closed thread in this forum, but none of the 8 pages helped.

    "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash "

    I'm using Windows XP. I've attempted watching with IE7 and FireFox. I've cleared my cache on both browsers. I've deleted all cookies. I've uninstalled Adobe and then reinstalled the latest program. I've enabled Javascript. I've rebooted several times. I've waited a day at a time and retried. Nothing is working.

    I'd welcome any solutions. PLEASE post anything you may think of, and I'll do it, or tell you if I already have. I'm getting very frustrated.

    If you tried installing from the link provided by youtube, the link doesn't provide you with a comprehensive version of flash player.
    Download the better version version of flash player from here
    http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html

    Install it, see if things work.

    Thank you both of you. :) Unfortunately, I already did that. I downloaded the full version after uninstalling my "old" one. (which I suspect wasn't old after all anyways)

    which version of firefox and IE are you using? Which OS do you use?

    I use Windows XP. Internet Explorer 7 and FireFox 3.

    Yep. A few times, actually. (I uninstalled/reinstalled about seven times now. To no avail.)

    I believe that the instructions with the Adobe uninstaller suggest that IE users should probably reboot at least once, and I read somewhere that running the uninstaller more than once wouldn't hurt either.

    I assume you are aware that the IE and Firefox versions of the Flash plugin are different? Every time you run the Adobe uninstaller the Firefox plugin will be removed and will have to be replaced by the non Active X version of the plugin.

    Also, in case you do have a JavaScript problem, you can go here; http://www.javatester.org/ and click on the orange 'JavaScript' box on the left of the page. That should confirm if JS is working in your browser and will also identify the browser and state which version of JS it uses (1.3 for IE, 1.8 for Firefox)>

    Thank you TOGG. It says "Java Version: 1.6.0_13 from Sun Microsystems Inc."
    I do know that there are different Flash plugins for FireFox and IE. I have both...
    I know I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. So frustrating! I appreciate your help.

    Flash Player 10.0.22.87 (Complete Standalone Installer) for Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape

    Firefox only needs the Java Script to run that is part of Firefox and it has nothing to do with the Sun Java that is not needed.

    If you have it installed then all should work.

    You should have all in that image but more updated files.
    Flash10b.ocx is needed for IE flash.
    NPSWF32.dll is needed for Netscape and Firefox flash.

    I am going to talk about using Firefox...
    If it still does not work then make sure you are not blocking the java script.
    Any ad-ons like NoScript you need to let the Java Script run for youtube. Cookies are not needed.

    Now any firewall or other anti-malware or virus program you have you may be blocking things also.
    If they list websites you may have to mark the site as trusted to let the java script run.
    Online Armor firewall you have to do this with under "Web Sites".
    For that to work the "Web Shield" has to be checked and running.

    As to the firewall, I've already gone round and allowed YouTube as an accepted site.

    I think I should mention, I can view some videos but not the ones I'm trying to view.
