Solved: help me explain football to a new fan

While watching football, my wife needs some answers.
1. Who is the "red shirt freshman? They all are wearing the same color
2. What house are they taking it to?
3. Why is the "red zone" green grass?

There will be more questions after the next game.

I'll explain in layman terms (from someone that loves football but not precise on the glossary of terms) :D

Red shirt freshman played for the team the previous year as a freshman but didn't log enough playing time, allowing the player to compete for 4 more years. There is no symbol on the uniform. This is only a stat on the player.

When a team scores a TD they "took it to the house". Slang for endzone.

The red zone is from the 20 yard line to the goal line. The "red zone" is considered the area in which a team can easily score points (TD or field goal)

Hope this helps. I'm sure someone will come along and tweak my response.
