Have Windows XP. Began as trojan.zonebac. Norton Security Program keeps removing it. Last night, within five minutes checking e-mail, got hit with alerts of trojan.zonbac, trojan.vundo, downloader.misleadapp, downloader, adware.maxsearch, etc. Security program either removed or blocked everything. During this attack, I noticed firewall rules were being written for several things. I went back and blocked those, or removed the ones that were written. I ran a full scan, and went to Panda security site, and they did a scan and disinfected everything but the cookies. Today when I got on-line, once again had the trojan.zonebac alert/removal. First, fake warning and alert boxes took over advertisement spaces on web sites. Now nasty soft-porn ads have hijacked regular advertisement spaces. :(

Would appreciate someone's help! Do not have funds right now to call Symantec for a consultant's help with high fees! Bless you in advance!

A few days ago Norton removed Trojan.advatrix, and Downloader.MisleadApp. Since then the advertisement spaces have all returned to normal. Hallelujah! The programs that trojan.zonebac took over initially still do not work. During start up of the computer, different kinds of install boxes are coming up, wanting to install things I don't even know if I have, as well as one of the programs that won't work anymore. I just keep clicking cancel on them and eventually they stop appearing. Not sure why things are quiet all of a sudden?

Would still appreciate anyone's help to get all the traces out of the computer of whatever viruses still are hidden. Also, to get the use back of the programs that were hijacked by trojan.zonebac.

Thanks so much!

Here is a Kaspersky Scan I just ran. It shows four viruses and five infections. Hope this will help with getting my computer cleaned out.

Download Combofix Beta to your desktop:

* Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
* When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

--- E O F ---
Things had gotten a little desperate a week ago when my IE was taken over and I could not connect with the server to get on-line. I tried to follow removal instructions given to me from Symantec, after disabling System Restore. Bailed out of the process though, since I felt deleting the values from the registry was beyond my abilities. After turning System Restore back on, and rebooting the computer, I had the use of the IE again, and the Kaspersky scan had changed, showing less viruses. I REALLY appreciate
your coming to my rescue!

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy all the text contained in the quote box below including the " Files to delete:" line, to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
• Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
• Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
• Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
• Click Done
• Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
• It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

then

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.
• Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.
• In the Processes group click Non-Microsoft
• In the Win32 Services group click Non-Microsoft
• In the Driver Services group click Non-Microsoft
• In the Registry group click ALL
• In the Files Created Within group click 90 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is CHECKED
• In the Files Modified Within group select 90 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is CHECKED
• In the File String Search group select ALL
in the Additional scans sections please press select all and then unselect event viewer. uncheck non-microsoft only
• Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
• The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
• When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
• Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button and attach the notepad file here . I will review it when it comes in.
