XP Pro os. Norton Internet Security(2004), Ad-Aware SE.
On Saturday, 1/22/05, I made the STUPID mistake of turning off the active x restraints on IE & Norton firewall (for half an hour!) to see if that was why I was not able to see some pictures on websites. (a microsoft article said that may be the cause!)
I had run Ad-Aware SE earlier that day, and had no items. When I ran it again after "my stupidity", I had the following 7 items:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:software\classes\clsid\{15ad4789-cdb4-47e1-a9da-992ee8e6bad6}\
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:software\microsoft\code store database\distribution units\{15ad4789-cdb4-47e1-a9da-992ee8e6bad6}\
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:software\microsoft\code store database\distribution units\{15ad4789-cdb4-47e1-a9da-992ee8e6bad6}"SystemComponent"
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:software\microsoft\code store database\distribution units\{15ad4789-cdb4-47e1-a9da-992ee8e6bad6}"Installer"
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:aspfile\persistenthandler\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:aspfile\persistenthandler""
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ide21201.vxd

I am also getting an error message (since "my stupidity"!) every time I start or restart my computer:
    16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
    C:\WINDOWS\UI\BIOSCTL.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications.
    Choose 'CLOSE' to terminate application.

(I choose close, of course)***UPDATE*** After reading Cheeseball81's response(1/27/05) to "16 bit error", posted by fraction, I now have fixed the error message. THANK YOU CHEESEBALL81!!!
I had also found AdStat Service in my add/remove programs, which I removed. (Norton never has found any of these files!)
Is it as simple as deleting these regkeys, regvalues, files, or is it more complicated?
I had a BAD experience with my registry 'way back when I had to deal with SahAgent, which caused me to have to reformat & start over, so I am terrified of doing anything to my registry without EXACT instructions.
I posted in Lavasoft's Ad-AwareSE forum on Saturday, but never got any response- and I can't leave this junk in my computer much longer.
Can you Pleeeeeease help me?

Why don't you post us a HJT log.

Create a permanent folder on your hard drive for Hijackthis, like My Documents\HJT
Click on this link: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe and "Save" hijackthis to the folder you have created.

Double click on the program to run hijackthis, click "scan" then click on "Save Log".

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.
