    Hi,
Save these steps to a Notepad text file to your desktop, as part of the fix is done in Safe Mode where these forums are not available...or, print the steps out.

I'm surprised Ewido isn't picking up these two items:

    C:\aocat.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\clms.exe-
--this is running as a Service, so we need to shut it down this way before you run Ewido:

Click Start > Run > and type in:

    services.msc

    Click OK.

In the services window find Service: clmss
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility.

Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

Run Ewido set this way, and in Safe Mode, sounds like you probably know how, but I will include all the directions to ensure you have them right. You NEED TO save the directions to either a Notepad text file and save to your desktop, or, print them out as these forums will not be available while you are in Safe Mode.

How to get to Safe Mode in XP:

    Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter

    Run Ewido:
    · Click on scanner
    · Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    · During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
    · When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
    · Save the report to your desktop
This will take some time to run!
Post the new HJT log and the Ewido log.

(We usually also fix the entries with Hijackthis, they may or may not show in your next scan, you can go ahead and fix these items if they do show in your scan after running Ewido, then post the new HJT log and the Ewido log)

All browsers shut, Normal mode of Windows, fix these:

O23 - Service: clmss (Content List Management Sub System) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\clms.exe(here, in your next scan, if you shut the service down OK, it should have a "file missing")

If these two files are found, delete them.
    C:\aocat.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\clms.exe

You can use the Config>Misc Tools features in Hijackthis to "Delete a file on Reboot", just Browse to one of the bad file locations, OK, and then the other so both are deleted on reboot, press OK, you will restart.

Hi, Log is clean now, how are things acting?

I see you have a lot of media apps, and use a Sony

    Are you aware of this:

    http://forums.techguy.org/security/430106-recent-critical-updates-2006-a.html

See post #2, "Owned by SONY" it's about the recent problem with embedded software in some Sony/BMG CDs. You do want to check for this on your computer as it is a security risk and has been exploited already. Millions of these CDs were sold, you could own one perhaps....or have played one. Good luck!

With the amount of tracking cookies found, I advise you to get and run CleanUP> do this:

    *Download Cleanup from Here
    • A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
    • On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
    • Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
    • Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
    • A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set to Standard Quality.
    • Click OK
    • DO NOT RUN IT YET-we will use it later in Safe Mode

Restart or start up the computer into Safe Mode:

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter

    * Run Cleanup:
    • Click on the "Cleanup" button and let it run.
    • Once its done, close the program.

Your last step is to do the System Restore work> Restore if running has by now backed up that malware you worked to remove and will replace it if you some day have to use System Restore and choose an infected Point, so do this:

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.Wait for hourglass to stop and it says
    "Turned Off"

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.
