We do not recommend the use of HijackThis log analyzers as they can do more harm than good. They often flag good entries for removal and miss the bad ones so the risk is too great. Please do not post this link again.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi best to wait for a Hjt log expert here to read your log..
Most Hjt online readers are less than reliable..and may cause you more problems.

Yes definitely wait for the experts and that site should not be posted I have seen people go there and delete everything with a question mark or exclamation point and wonder why their computer does not work. That site is good for one thing and you can do that by just reading the log file in HJT or Wordpad.

Okay, now I am confused - in the past I have been ask to post the hijack this log so that the "experts" on this forum could help me delete what I don't need and I have never had a problem. Are you telling me now that there is a problem and you don't do it anymore? What can I send in its place to get assistance on why my computer is so slow?

I have read the posts and the only problem was one of the unqualified techs posted a little diddy that was telling you to go to a certain site that might have caused a little problem if you did and this was not a correct solution and the post was deleted by cookiegal. There was nothing telling you that your problem is not or won't be fixed. I am not a part of the HJT team and therefore can not diagnose your log file. Well I can but it might be wrong and the results might cause your computer to malfunction and I am sure you would not like that.

Have a little patience and one of our HJT team members will be here to do his/her thing and you will be very happy.

Have a good one.

Hi kats4444,

I realize that was a little confusing but the posts were directed at barcabod for posting a link to a HijackThis analyzer.

Now, let's get on with your problem.

Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

  • Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
  • Under "Reports"
  • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.

  • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process. Be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Run ActiveScan online virus scan: here

When the scan is finished, save the results from the scan!

Come back here and post a new HijackThis log along with the logs from the Ewido and Panda scans.

Okay, I have not done anything because I read all the post before I did and realized that perhaphs the first suggestion wasn't such a good one and decided to ask my question. I will attempt what Cookiegal suggested and then re-post and let you know how it goes. Thanks for clearing up the confusion. :D

I'm attaching a FixKats.zip file to this post. Unzip it to your desktop but don't do anything with it yet.

Please disable SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable SpySweeper:

Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

Also Disable Ewido's realtime protection:

Open ewido by double-clicking the yellow 'e' icon in the system tray.

In the 'Your security status' section, toggle the ewido Guard realtime protection 'off' by clicking 'active' which will then change the protection status to 'inactive'.
When you reboot, ewido will prompt you as to whether you would like to "Restart the guard?".
Reply 'no' and set it to 'inactive' for the duration of your cleanup.

Go to Control Panel – Add/Remove programs and remove the following, if there:

MyWebSearch

I would also uninstall those two screen savers as they come bundled with adware:

MagicWaterFall
Butterfly Oasis

You can read about them here:

http://www.castlecops.com/s10391-MW1HelperStartUp.html
http://www.castlecops.com/s8757-BO1HelperStartUp.html

Click Here and download Killbox and save it to your desktop but don’t run it yet.

Rescan with HijackThis, close all browser windows except HijackThis, put a check mark beside these entries and click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BO1HelperStartUp] C:\PROGRA~1\BUTTER~1\BO1HEL~1.EXE /partner BO1

Then boot to safe mode:

How to restart to safe mode

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
  • In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time:

    c:\windows\GatorPdpLoudInstaller.log

  • Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
  • It will ask for confirmation to delete the file.
  • Click Yes.
  • Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.
  • Killbox may tell you that one or more files do not exist.
  • If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.
  • Next in Killbox go to Tools > Delete Temp Files
  • In the window that pops up, put a check by ALL the options there except these three:
    • XP Prefetch
    • Recent
    • History
  • Now click the Delete Selected Temp Files button.
  • Exit the Killbox.

While still in safe mode, unzip the FixKats.zip file that you saved to your desktop earlier. Double click kthe FixKats.reg file and allow it to enter into the registry.

Boot back to Windows normally and post another HijackThis log and do another scan with Panda and post the results please.

Before I go any farther I wanted to tell you that the three things you asked me to remove from the control panel do not appear in the list under add/remove programs - I have triple checked and they are not there.
yWebSearch
MagicWaterFall
Butterfly Oasis

These are things I know that I had at one time and must still be in there somewhere if you can still see them. Is there someplace else I need to go to remove them? Once I know this I will proceed with the rest of your instructions. I am good up to that point. Thanks

That's fine. Skip that part for now and we'll deal with those later.
