I've recently had trouble with some kind of virus or spyware which causes IE and Windows Explorer to crash upon startup. I ran Hijack This and these are the results. I'd greatly appreciate any help as to how I might fix the problem.

Hi..your version of HijackThis is out of date....
Do this...right-click your desktop and choose "New Folder".name it "HijackThis".
    Now go to http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-328.html
    Or,http://www.richardthelionhearted.com/?url=merijn.richardthelionhearted.com and download 'HijackThis!'.....
Unzip it to its newly created folder! Doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

If you have anything disabled by MSConfig or any other startup manager, please re-enable it before scanning to post.

    ;)

I updated Adaware, ran it and that seems to have solved my immediate problem. However, I am still concerned about a couple of things that how up on the HJT log. Here's the most recent version, after running Adaware. If anyone can let me know if there are any problems here, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Not sure whether I've posted something incorrectly or not. If more information is required in order to get an assessement of my HJT log, please let me know. If not, I'd greatly appreciate any comments as to what should or needs to be fixed.

    Many thanks.

Turn off system restore. On the desktop, right-click on My Computer, click properties, click system restore tab, check turn off system restore, click apply and then OK. Restart your computer. Once your system is clean you will turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Rescan with Hijack This, close all browser windows except Hijack This, put a check mark beside these entries and click “fix checked”.

If you didn't place this in the trusted zone intentionally, include this entry as well:

Then reboot and post another log please.

Any further suggestions? Or should I just start the system restore again?

    Thanks again.

No problem $tan :D BTW, I'm CG not CT but you just created a new name for me CookieTech! :D

    Ian1962,

    How's everything running now?

Now you can turn system restore back on and create a new restore point:

    http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml

I also recommend downloading SPYWAREBLASTER & SPYWAREGUARD, for added protection.

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Read here to see how to tighten your security:

CG, everything seems good. Many thanks. :)

I've already installed the two spyware programs you mention.

Looking at the Log now, I don't think I have any further use for the following:

    O16 - DPF: {12F7F128-B36C-4843-8AA4-A5F71A969331} (Launcher Control) - https://horizons.istaria.com/controls/launcher.ocx

Is there any reason not to delate that stuff?

Also, I'm curious as to what this might be and whether it can be deleted:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PRONoMgr.exe] c:\Program Files\Intel\NCS\PROSet\PRONoMgr.exe

    Once again, thanks. :)
