Hello freds. Welcome to the TSG

You need to update your version of HijackThis.

Delete the HijackThis you have now.

Download HijackThis from link in my signature. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.

    Hi freds

    Welcome to TSG! :)

First go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Kazaa if you still have it. It is full of spyware and the source of many problems.

Also uninstall any of these programs that are in Add/Remove:

    P2P Networking
    Altnet or Altnet Points Manager
    BroadJump
    SuperBar
    PowerSearch

    Restart after each uninstall.

    Now do this:

Extract it (it should autoextract to C:\FindnFix when you double click it)

Go to the C:\FindnFix folder and doubleclick on !LOG!.BAT and let it run. It will generate a log.txt file. Copy and paste log.txt back here in your next reply.

    Dear firnan1,

I deleted the programs except PowerSearch which I couldn't do because it was being used by another program.
To complicate matters, when I ran FindNFix, it couldn't generate a report because notepad has disappeared from my computer. Sorry to be such a pain, but is there a way to reinstall notepad or can I generate a FindNFix report to Microsoft Word.
    Thanks.

Click here to download a new copy of notepad.exe. First unzip the notepad.zip file then copy the new notepad.exe file to both the C:\Windows and C:\Windows\System32 folders.

Now try running the Log.bat file.

Click here to download CWShredder. Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished restart your computer.

Go here and download Adaware SE.

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

    Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and we'll get rid of what's left.

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

    C:\WINDOWS\winlogon.exe (See *Note below)
    C:\WINDOWS\fash.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\TjsAtZ.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnsapisu.exe

    Delete these folders:

    c:\installer
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
    C:\Program Files\ClockSync
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking

*Note: DO NOT delete thw winlogon.exe file that is in the System32 folder.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.
