First off, let me say that I love this website. The response here is fast, friendly, direct and its always very useful and helpful. You guys have never failed me before and I'm hoping I can get some help now...because, to be perfectly frank, this thing is kicking my ***.

I should start off by saying it happened when I downloaded a upgrade for a game I play. I installed it, it ran just like it should (the upgrades even went into the game) and now this is happening. I don't know why, I don't know how, but I hate getting a virus on my computer more than I hate just about anything else. Seriously. I hate it. Anyways. I've got this annoying little stupid thing called 'Smart Antivirus 2009' that I DID NOT download at any point in time, ever, that keeps telling me I've got all kinds of trojans and viruses that I'm somewhat sure I don't have. I ran my fully updated Symantec antivirus program twice so far and its came up drawing blanks both times. Its saying its catching different trojans trying to activate malicious software. 'Virus detected, file deleted' each time. Yay! Score one for me.

Anyways. Here's the HiJack This log for you guys. You wizards of computers will know what to make of it more than me :D Its getting late as all over here, I've got to go get some sleep soon. But I'll stay up and reply for as long as I possibly can...I want to have this sorted out. Thanks!

-EDIT- Going to sleep now. I'll check up on this tomorrow. I downloaded STOPZilla, hopefully it lets me remove the infected files without having to register for the program...none of them seem to do that...goodnight everyone :D

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. alternate download link 1 alternate download link 2
    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
    • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
    • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
      • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Then click Finish.
    • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
    • On the Scanner tab:
      • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
      • Then click on the Scan button.
    • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
    • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
    • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
    • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
    • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
    • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Thanks, but I'm afraid your help (which undoubtedly would have saved me loads of grief and over ten months of lost text files in the form of short stories, music files, game saved files and pictures) came too late. I reinstalled my OS and deleted the old partition, and created a new one. So on one hand I have a fresh start, but on the other ten months of my life was wasted. Pretty fun, eh? :D Thanks once more for your help.
