    3. When clicked on ok.....System config Utility appears again without having run msconfig.

    4. Get this entry in CCleaner start up apps.

    5. Winpatrol alertsÂ….even if the startup is disabled or removed, same happens if msconfig is run later?

    6. Is it a registry issue?

You have to check the "don't show again" box...

Anytime you check or uncheck startup entries in Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Startup(tab) and then restart the computer, that System Configuration Utility window will appear. All you need to do is check it before you click OK to close it. (y)

By the way, be careful how you use CCleaner and WinPatrol because they can get you in trouble if you don't know what you're doing.

    Thanks flavalle & zabusant.

Could you care to shed some light about being cautious with CCleaner & Winpatrol?

Personally am no big fan of Winpatrol........

If you know how to manage the startup list in the System Configuration Utility window and how to keep the buildup of temp/junk files cleaned out, neither one is needed.

The primary danger of using those type utilities is messing with the registry.

System Config Utility I know.........but temp/junk files not really.

flavalle , a question........my machines are running fine.........did a few software installs & uninstalls using Revo.....is it possible to manually delete obsolete/unused registry entries vs a reg cleaner like CC or Eusing etc.

    Thanks.

To get rid of the buildup of temp files, use this short and quick method:

Click Start - Run, type in c:\windows\temp and then click OK.

Click Start - Run, type in %temp% and then click OK.

When these temp folders appear, select and delete EVERYTHING from inside them.

If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal. Leave them alone and delete EVERYTHING else.

After you're done, restart the computer.

(Doing this a couple of times a month should be sufficient)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not use any registry cleaner/booster/optimizer/tuneup type program to "clean" or "fix" the registry, no matter what their creators tell you they can do.

They do little-to-nothing to improve speed or performance. What they can do is break some of your programs and damage the Windows operating system.
