    Hi All,

I have an HP OmniBook XE3 with 256MB of ram a 1GHz Celeron Processor running Windows Xp Home.

Everything was working ok on it until today.

This laptop will not allow me to:

    Boot using a floppy disc
    Boot into safe mode.
    Boot from CD.
    Change the boot order.
    Enter BIOS Set-Up

It has been working fine until today. When the system begins to boot I can hear the CD start to spin then quit. I have tried to change the boot order by hitting ESC button with no luck it looks like it is showing POST test with “ATA CDmrom SCRm2t2’’’’’’’) as the last item in the list. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup all I see is “Entering SETUP….” And it never loads past that.

Any ideas on what to do?

The CD starts to spin? Is anything in it?

try the F2 but wait a longer time.

If you can find it, remove the CMOS battery (and disconnect all other power) to reset it.

Yeah I have a Windows Xp disc in the drive.

    I waited about 20 minutes.

I am going to check HP.com to if I can remove the CMOS battery without taking everything apart.

20 minutes should be long enough. But if you get nowhere before bed, may as well leave it all night to see what happens.

The battery should last about 5 years, but they do need to be replaced from time to time, so hopefully they didn't make it too hard to get to.

Is it hot? It should be on a flat, smooth surface so that air can flow freely.

    Any luck finding the battery?

I have solved the issue. For whatever reason the CD rom was preventing the system to boot. I have removed the cd drive and all is well now.
