Can someone tell me the easiest way for me to set my computer up so that my granddaughter can't go to www.myspace.com on either IE6 or Firefox? Thanks, grandpaw7

edit your host files with notpad
you will need to change the file type to all

the file can be found in
    windows>system32>drivers>etc

    it will look like this
    just add
    127.0.0.1 www.myspace.com

to the bottom to look like this
then use save - NOT save as - so it overwrites the exisying file in the same format and not as a txt file

    works OK on my PC

Depending on her experience, she may still be able to get to it by using a proxy site or editing the hosts file herself.

First, though, I apologize for my delay in responding. I thought I would get an email alert that there were replies and so when I got none I assumed there weren't any, till I remembered that sometimes I don't get email alerts and so I checked.

But I simply cannot believe that a cluz like me was able to do what you suggested. What great directions!! When I first saw them, my thought was "oh, dear, I have no idea what he is talking about." Then, I found out that I didn't need to really know what you were talking about, I just needed to do as I was told.

etaf, thanks very much for your help. Don't tell anyone but doing this made me feel a little like a geek. Felt good.

brendandandonhu, thanks for the tip. I'll have to keep an eye on things.

I guess I can still ask a question here. For personal reasons, I would like to ban the so-called "Civilized Debate" forum from my computer. Can I do this by adding this to that host place where I added myspace.com:

    127.0.0.1 http://forums.techguy.org/62-civilized-debate ?

P.S. Well, I guess not because I added that and still had access to so-called "Civilized Debate".
