    Hi all ,

Is there a way to stop logging of temp files at C:Windows\Temp ?

I deleted everything in that folder which was about 5GB and also emptying the recycle bin soon after but within an hour another set of temp files almost 5GB are again loaded in that same folder. Now my hard drive has no more space left. I have deleted that folder several times in one day but theres no end to it filled up.
Is there a way to stop this ?

Can you give us an example of the files that are filling up the temp folder - name, extension etc?

I would start by checking for malware with Spybot

    Then, an online virus check

Then, install and run HiJackThis and copy/paste the created LOG file back here for review.

I cleaned my hard drive several times with Zone Alarm Security suite, Spybot and Spyware Doctor but even after doing all that, I still keep getting my c:\windows\temp folder filled with those tmp folders. Within an hour, I can get like 2 GB of those files and within a few hours my Hard Drive shows its full.

    Heres the Hijack this Log:

Please run the online AV check that I posted above.

You have one piece of malware that is noted on the Trend site and the online run should detect and remove it.

    VBS Gedza

It should detect and remove these
    F0 - system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winmgd.win
    F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\system32\mouse_configurator.win

Then, use the Trend link about the virus, to track down and remove any other pieces left behind.

After doing the AV run, post back another HJT log.

As well, you do not have an active antivirus running!!

Using HijackThis I have removed those two lines

    F0 - system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winmgd.win
    F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\system32\mouse_configurator.win

and did another spyware scan. I have no more problems now with those tmp files.

WHitPhil, Im using ZoneAlarm Security Suite as my antivirus, firewall, and also antispyware it loads on start up and always on.

    Thanks WhitPhil , Thanks Lister.

    Great.

I did notice that you said Security Suite, but I didn't see any other apps running, but for the normal ZA ones, so "thought" that the AV as missing. I guess it's all part and parcel in ZlClient?

If you haven't use the link for Gedza and remove any other pieces that are still left behind.

And, if all is well, use Thread Tools at the top, to mark this Resolved.
