    Hi,

I've just formatted my computer and restored my personal folder (.pst file) in outlook before setting up any e-mail.

I've setup my e-mail after that, but then outlook creates a new personal folder for it, and that's not what I want. I'd like to receive mail in my old personal folder.

    How can I do that?

    Appreciate your help. :)

Locate your new empty PST file (probably in c:\Users\name\Application\Microsoft\Outlook )
then locate your old PST file. Rename it to match the new PST file name.
Then copy the renamed file over the other PST file.
Reload Outlook and see if it picks up email.

I encountered a similar [ ? the same ] problem with moving Outlook 2000, on PC #1 to Outlook 2003 on PC #2. I posted the problem at this forum. I was unhappy with the results, so I decided to continue using Outlook 2000 on PC #1.

    I hope peterh40's advice works.

Intresting but most of the time I just make a new archive folder because of the way the inboxes look after recovery.

I just change the Default Delivery location to the .pst file I prefer.

    Outlook 2003,
Tools > E-Mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts > Next
In the drop down field for: Deliver new e-mail to the following location:
    Select the .pst file desired.
Close and restart Outlook 2003 for the change to take effect.

It's even easier in Outlook 2007,
Tools > Account Settings > Data Files tab
Select the preferred .pst file as the Default and click the Set as Default button.
Close and restart Outlook 2007 for the change to take effect.

It does make it easier to tell the Personal Folders apart, if they are renamed.
    :)

Well I just used POP3 instead of IMAP, and it imported to the Personal Folder I've recovered earlier automatically.
