I am receiving frequent system resources low message, blue fatal exception errors, and freezing. I checked my system resources and they were indeed low. So, I deleted all my *.tmp files, got rid of some junk programs, cookies, temp internet files, and such. I also ran AdAware and SpyBot. Now, I would like to post my hijack log, but am unsure how to save it. Everytime I try to save it, then open it, it just keeps asking me whether I would like to save or open it. I remembered someone saying something about notepad, but cant find the post. Thanks.

Hi you have the about:blank hijack so I've notified the moderator to see if you can get moved to Security where one of the experts there can help you out.

    Moving to security......in the meantime.......

Download AdAware SE from here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    Then......

Click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    Then.........

Go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

Then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu)

    Now re-boot...

    Then
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.
    Activate the "Imunize" function.
    ==========================================================
Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites....
    http://virusscan.jotti.dhs.org/
    http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html
    http://www.dials.ru/english/www_av/
    http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
    http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

    Re-boot again.

Then post a new HijackThis log to check what is left. [/b]

And when this is all clean...
    Consider installing the following:

SpywareBlaster v 3.0 and SpywareGuard v2.2, to prevent Active-X drive-by installations, as well as provide real-time browser hijacking protection: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/index.html

IE-SPYAD, a registry file that adds a long list of known "sites" to the Restricted Sites of your Internet Explorer: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm
You should check regularly for updates on all these programs

Mozilla FireFox,much safer, faster and lighter browser than IE.
    http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

    . Install 'Spoofstick"
Spoofstick is a simple browser extension that helps users detect spoofed (fake) websites. This extension is free and installs in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

I know you have those two already but the instructions are also for configuring the programs.

You need to uninstall P2P Networking...Altnet and ErrorNuker in Add/Remove Programs.

*bump* Okay. I've done all I was instructed to do. I did get to do a complete virus scan on symantecs site, with no viruses. Panda, however, could not scan. It would get to 110,000 out of 120,000 files to be scanned, then the wise install wizard would pop up asking me about Microsoft office. I clicked cancel, but panda was frozen. This happened 2x. I just removed it from the add/remove program list. I also went to msconfig and unchecked everything except systray, scanreg, and norton. Here is my new hijack log:

***Errornuker is not on my add/remove programs list. Also, there were things on the list, such as a living waterfall screensaver I downloaded, that when I tried to remove it off my comp said "Uninstall removes windows98 from your computer and restores your previous version of windows", etc. What is up with that? I am also having problems shutting down my computer...i.e. it doesnt. I have to power it off. Even when I went to msconfig and clicked yes when prompted to reboot, it didnt do it. Its been doing this for a while. My system is a mess, and I am just doing what I can to get it running smoothly without fdisk'ing it. Does anyone know where there is a good, safe free firewall online? I have a cable modem and need one desperately. Thanks to all who've helped so far and will following this. Its greatly appreciated.

Fix all of these = you may have to redo some games, but the entries are not the normal ones

P.S.- I know I also had that coolwebsearch (compliments of my boyfriend) on this computer. I've seen it pop up a hundred times and deleted it using spybot or adaware, I forget which one. When I did the scan, it wasnt found on my computer.

Wow! I just went back and ran spysubtract pro. It found 200 total files that were malicious that spybot and adaware did not!! It's so much faster, and with a better interface. It found 3 of the the coolwebsearch files and more. Happy to be getting all of them off my system. We'll see if things improve from here. I did run the fixes already, btw.

    (y) Well, thank you so much for your help. My boyfriend is going to kill me, because all of his 1000 music files are gone hahahaha. Oh well, at least I'll be able to enjoy my computer now for more than an hour before it shuts down. I fell asleep with it on last night and it was actually still on and working this morning, not locked up. :) One final question, is there somewhere on the internet I can get a firewall for free? I need one badly as I am running on a cable modem. Thanks in advance :D
