How much space will I need for Windows 2003 SB server? I tried 6 gig and I am getting message that not enough space to upgrade to R2. Thanks for any suggestions. (Dell 6300, 300 gig HD+)

It is unclear what you are asking. Are you asking what partition sizes are recommended? What do you mean you tried 6gig and a upgrade to R2? If you are upgrading your partitioning is already set.

Yes, partition size. I installed the server software on 6 gig partition, the remaining 14 gig for data. After the network was configured, I tried to update the windows software through microsoft. The error message said I didn't have enough space. I now am going to use a newly acquired 300 gig HD and reinstall. I'm not sure how much space I need to partition for the operating system installation.

A 20gig drive is too small for any MS server. You could have done the whole drive for OS but would have found yourself out of space very shortly depending on file storage.

With a 300 gig drive I would say 60gig would be good. I believe the minimum is 10gig but I would never set the OS partition that small.
