How do I change the default windows LOGON name in Windows XP Home, SP3? I tried going to the registry to HKLM, then software, microsoft, windowsNT, current version, winlogon, then modified the data in both the strings "AltDefaultUserName" and "DefaultUserName". It worked fine after the first reboot, but went back to the old name after the second restart.

Start, Control Panel, User Accounts. You should be able to modify whatever preferences you want in there.

Thanks Shooter, but this is something that needs to be modified in the registry as well. I figured it out last night. By implementing my first registry modification then modifying the specific name in user account properties by going to start, run, control userpasswords2 - and then rebooting, it seemed to work and hold!

Closing this case.
