Hi bettyr

To get rid of MSN Messenger in Outlook Express
First if enabled, disable the Contacts pane,
View > Layout...
Uncheck: Contacts

Then check to see if Messenger is configured to run when Outlook Express is started:
Tools > Options > General tab
Uncheck: Automatically log on to Windows Messenger
or
Uncheck: Automatically log on to MSN Messenger

Mine refers to Windows Messenger.

See if this link helps in configuring an IMAP account for AOL in Outlook Express:
How to configure an AOL e-mail account in Outlook Express

Let us know if that works for you.

You're almost there. ;)
Delete that account and start over, you want to choose IMAP as the server type.
Your account currently is set up as a POP3 account.

In Outlook Express,
Tools > Accounts > Add > Mail
The first two screens are self explanatory.
On the third screen there is a drop down arrow for:
My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
click the arrow and select IMAP instead.

After creating the IMAP account and accessing the Properties of the account: there will be an additional tab labeled: IMAP

Let us know what happens.

ok here,s another message

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Subject 'me', Account: 'imap.aol.com', Server: 'smtp.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '556 CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 556, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Are you able to logon to your AOL mail server at AOL's website?

In Outlook Express,
Tools > Accounts > (AccountName) > Properties

On the IMAP tab,
if present, uncheck the option for: Store special folders on IMAP server

To avoid spammers, you may want to remove or edit your E-mail address that you posted.

Looking back at your post #3 it looks like your Account was configured properly as an IMAP account.
My apologies for stating it was wrong. :(

Were these folders created for AOL's account in Outlook Express?
Inbox folder,
SentItems folder,
Saved folder,
Spam folder, and a Voicemail folder?

Does your anti-virus program have E-mail scanning enabled?
If so, try disabling the E-mail scanning, then try a test Send/Receive with the AOL account.

Are you receiving the same error message as earlier when trying to send?

Sorry, I got hung up with phone support - Mom. :p

This should be working by now. :(

There is another option to try before reinstalling Outlook Express.
Other than the AOL account problem, does Outlook Express appear to be working OK?

I am posting a few of the Account Properties pages for the AOL account, would you kindly recheck your settings against these?

Are you using any Spam blockers or Pop-Up blockers?
If so, try disabling those programs.

The other option would be to create a new Identity in Outlook Express.

In Outlook Express,
File > Identities > Add New Identity
Name the Identity
Click Yes when asked if you want to switch to the new Identity.
Recreate your E-mail account.

Try sending yourself a Test e-mail using the new Identity.
