I downloaded a CD of a friend's Civil War research to my "Documents" file. Seems to be an Alpha Five v8 application with dozens of files. Not in the Add/Remove tool. When I try to manually delete files, copies of each are made. Icon the CD created on desktop won't open the alpha5.exe.manifest it calls up. How do I remove everything?? Computer running Windows XP3, 7 year old Compaq Presario...slow, but enough for my needs.

Can you try boot in safe mode and then try to delete?

    Did you install anything?

I'm not familiar with that Alpha Five v8 application, but did it create a Programs File folder or an entry in the Start Menu?

Other than MoveOnBoot, I like using Unlocker, but I'm not sure if that kind of software is what you need, especially if you're not getting any error messages when trying to delete your files.

thanks to all replies. I have downloaded an uninstall program (Revo) and am reading User Guide. Any suggestions? Will report if this program worked.

Some programs that don't put an uninstaller in add/remove programs
put a folder in the start menu.
Look in that folder for an uninstaller.

Sorry, I do appreciate the advice. No sign of alpha5.exe in Program Files or Startup Menu. Will try the Revo Uninstaller in 2 days. Thanks.

Might check the processes tab in task manager to make sure it is
not running there before you try to delete.
The running process may be causing it to replace it's files.
Just right click the taskbar and click task manager.

Did you ever install Alpha Five v8 on your computer? Or, are there only files you're trying to delete?

I'm just not savvy enough to know if Alpha5 was installed or not...just many files---some with Alpha5 names and others like Bibliography.dbf,.fpt, Startup.AEX, even a Word file giving instructions on searching the database, etc. Alpha Software site doesn't seem to offer a way to remove these.

How are you deleting the files? Are you dragging them to the Recycle Bin?

Can you move them to another folder?

So far, I'm just highlighting and using delete key. Will try Recycle Bin and then moving to another folder now. the Revu Uninstaller did not list any of the Alpha5 files (various file extensions) as a program. So...on to the next step.
