No matter what I'm printing from it does this, websites, documents, it won't even complete a test print. It just stops and the power button flashes. It won't let me cancel the document out of the queue, I have to reboot the computer.

This is a new computer and printer from my son's online school, the only software on it is what came installed by the school. It uses Windows XP. I've searched and searched and can't seem to find a solution, I hate to have to send it back.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hey sp,

I actually did go to the HP website and installed their Diagnostic Utility that automatically checks to see if you have the most current software and drivers, and it told me I did. I'll give it a try though, just to be sure.

So, I redownloaded the software, but I can't get the printer to be recognized by the computer. But, when I go to the Printers section of control panel, and I tell it to print a test page, it starts to do so, gets about 2/3 of the way through, then just stops. ARRGHH so frustrating! I'm just dumb enough to not get why this isn't working. LOL

Look at Start -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes.
Does the HP Deskjet D2660 show as your default printer ?

If not then move your mouse pointer to it and right click.
Then choose Set as Default Printer.

I finally figured it out! I was able to print a test page using the power/cancel button on the printer, and it printed just fine. I grabbed a USB cable from my other HP printer and it worked, no problems, so I guess it's a bad cable.

    Thanks for trying to help!
