I have a Pavilion Ze4145 laptop with Windows XP which has just started skipping characters intermittently. It is random in nature and does so in any program. It works fine when I plug in an external keyboard. I also noticed that the touchpad operation is jumpy also which leads me to believe that this a performance problem rather than a hardware problem with the keypad. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.
I have a ZT1170 and was having (and still have) what I believe is the same problem. The fact that you have no problem with a KB without a Touch Pad 'may' also show the problems are the same.
The problem as I FINALLY figured out is that as I was typing, a part of my hand (L/R) was touching the Touch Pad and repositioning the Cursor. It was particularly noticeable when using this Forum's text box. I'd be typing along and all of a sudden I was typing in the MIDDLE of another part of the paragragh!!
It still happens occassionly, but at least I know why.
Winbob,
Thanks for your reply. I don't think that is the same problem I am having. I did see a posting about the "Thumb Hovering Syndrome" so I made sure that this could not have happened. I pressed the same key at a rate of about 2 per second with no parts of my body near the touchpad and the computer would miss 1 out of every 7 to12 characters. It re-occurred for any key on the board. I also checked to make sure the sensitivity for the keyboard rate was in the normal range and even set the defaults. This one has got me stumped. I'm going to do a performance tune-up next week to see if that improves anything. Thanks again for your message.
A completely dead battery caused the touchpad and keyboard to lag. I removed the battery and everything worked fine.
