My Hp printer will not print (or do anything). It says that a specific cartridge needs to be replaced which I have done (twice). I can switch it off and on and it stall gives the cartridge warning. It is completely locked up. I am using compatible cartridges, could this be the problem?

Is there any ink on the contacts in the printer where the cartridge installs? Or damage to that contact pad?

Here is the support and software site for the HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One printer.

This section might be of some help to you.

Thanks for that. Chatted to HP and they suggest than using a compatible cartridge is the problem. I'll buy an HP one and try again - then maybe buy a Canon

HP printers don't like having other than HP cartridges used.
