Replace a defective hard drive in the hp touchsmart 310-1020

Inserted recovery disk 1, it started loading files and all appeared normal.

I had to leave, it was around 12% of the file load. Left for an hour.

When I came back it was shut off and the disk door was open.

Now I can't turn it on. The light in the back is lit when plugged in.
When I press the on/off switch the switch on the side, it lites green and then goes right off, whether I hold it in or not,

Ideas welcome ?????????????????

Thats nice, but doesn't help. I guess a more specific question is in order.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I might try to get it turned back on ????

I replaced he new drive with the defective drive that I started with, the PC powered right up. So it appears that the new drive is defective and I will replace it.

I had some doubt that the original hard drive was defective.

Doing step 3 in my third link in post #2 should've determined if the replacement hard drive was detected and needed reseating.

Original hard drive is definitely on its way out. AHCI device error was generated from the BIOS' S.M.A.R.T. detection
