I have a site where

index.php?pagename=name

But it also uses:

index.php?new=newone

Iv tried various ways of getting the url to show as:

site.com/name

site.com/newone

But it seems i can only get one or the other to work. Any ideas?

Hope you don't think I'm being rude, but here goes...
What are you hoping to achieve? Your problem can probably best be solved by using reverse engineering, as I for one can't see the expected outcome from your explanation, sorry:(

Unfortunately you can only have one or the other not both.:(
Can you not just redirect both (either) entry type in your index script?
How and where do you specify the entry type the user wants? - maybe the correct direction should be handled there?

I just wanted seo friendly urls. Iv solved the problem by just adding an extra directory to the htaccess rule. I only needed to do the above with 3 urls. Anyway, thanks for your help.
