Hey everyone. I am having problems with the Desktop Weather Channel Application. I set it to run as administrator but yet when I start the computer it does not ask for administrator privileges. Also, I set it not to run at start up but it continues to run at start up anyway. I even went into the configuration utility (msconfig) and set it not to load at start up and it still loads at start up. How do I fix this? Its incredibly annoying because it asks to install a critical update all the time and it also asks to install these programs I don't want all the time. But if I run it as administrator it does not do that. Please help! I really need this program because I live in an area where we get a lot of storms and such and I need the alerts it provides. I know I can get these alerts on the television but I don't use the television hardly at all. It is also much more convenient to use this program. I could really use some assistance! Here's my system information:

I just wanted to mention that I went in to System Configuration Utility and disabled all startup items. Every thing continued to load except for my anti-virus. It would not load. Also, the taskbar and everything had changed to the classic windows setting. The sound also did not work. I then set it to enable all start up items and restarted. Everything looked the same. I then went in to the System Configuration Utility again and clicked Normal Startup. I restarted and the taskbar and sound went back to normal. I am now scanning my computer with Malware Bytes Anti-Malware because this all seems so strange. I am worried that I have been hacked or something. I'll let you all know what the full system scan finds, if anything.
Alright, I tried to remove the potentially unwanted programs (that's what it said they were) with Malware Bytes. I am now doing another full scan to ensure they are removed. The Weather Channel Application is still not working correctly and loading at startup despite the fact that I have told it not to in the System Configuration Utility and in the program itself.
You may have better luck getting some answers at the Weather Channel FAQ and Support.
I had the desktop app for a short period but it was not well behaved. I now keep a shortcut in Quick Launch to the website and check it periodically throughout the day and evening.
Regarding the MBAM scan, post a copy of the log showing the items in question.
Hey there TulaRose. Apparently the problem has fixed itself or never occurred to begin with and I did not realize it. When the Weather Channel Application loads at startup it loads normally and without asking for a critical update and such. It is only if I try to open the program after its been closed in standard user mode that I get these problems. However, if I open the program anew (again after its been closed out and exited) in administrator mode, I do not get those errors. Nevertheless, I am going to consider this problem solved because it loads on startup normally and I can always tell it to always load as administrator when loading a new instance of it.
