I think I am infected by WinAntiViruas 2006. I get these unwanted pop-up ads asking me to download teh program. I've been reading about it on the forum and understand that help is available by posting the HijackThis log which is specific to every installation - meaning you cannot use the advise offeredto one member to clean out another member's problem.

Here is the text of my log.

Would some good samaratin help me out as well ?

If you have vundofix, remove it and get the current version

Please download http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 to C:\
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please let Vundo finish its thing, sometimes it can take multiple passes

Dear MFDNnC

Thanks for helping me out with this.

I have partitioned my HD into D: and E: so I used the SuperAntiSpyware to scan both partitions. During scanning, my AVG Antivirus software warned me of malware 5 times (each time the file was located in the Temporary Iternet Files folder andeachtime it was a DLL. I moved the file to vault every time)

What is disabled in msconfig??

Fix these with HiJackThis – mark them, close IE, click fix checked

O23 - Service: DomainService - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbbyxrfv.exe (file missing)

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find this exact name

DomainService

Rightclick and choose "Properties". Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Click Apply then OK. File-Exit the Services utility.

START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new hijack log from normal NOT safe mode

How are things????????????

These were the two entries under MSConfig that were disabled. I have now enabled them.

Startup Item = pdchgdxu
Command = rundll32.exe "c:\windows\system32\pdchgdxu.dll",realset
Location = HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Startup Item = <blank>
Command = <blank>
Location = HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Now when I boot I get a message from RUNDLL saying that it cannot find the specified module / Error Loading :
c:\windows\system32\pdchgdxu.dll
After I hit OK the dialog box goes away and everything seems to work normally.

Hijack this
Done as suggested.

Service.MSC
DomainService was already Disabled and Sevice Status was already stopped when I reviewed it.

Deleting everything under %Temp%
It will not allow me to delete two files which are current (same date and time as just now) :
fnm6A and fnm6B
Otherwise done as suggested.

All files under C:\Windows\Temp
There were almost 4000 files, many of them 0KB size.
Deleted, except will not allow me to delete a couple of current files :
two .TMP files and one file called Perflib_Perfdata_1cc.dat

Recycle Bin emptied.

My problem indeed seems to be solved. Thanks very much for your help, you are the BEST !!

I will do a new Restore Point as suggested by you. And if you could give me some advise. Is it just enough to save this Restore Point or (since my computer is now working perfectly) I should invest in a program like Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage. And if I should, what would program would you recommend ?

And just out of curiousity and for my education ..
How did you determine that there were disabled items in my MSCONFIG file ? I looked thru my submissions to you and even though I know what is on my computer pretty well, there was nothing that seemed to point to a disabled item in MSCONFIG.

Would appreciate the info so I am wiser.

Many thanks once again for your help.

This

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

I see no need for Ghost, just back up critical data -
