Last week I set up an ICS between my laptop, HP Pavillion w/ windows vista home connecting to the internet via wireless card, and my desktop computer, home built w/ windows 7. Every now and then I had issues getting the internet connection resent to my client computer but usually a restart would fix it. Two days ago I turned both the host and client on as I had every other day and this time it showed a connection to the host but no internet. I double checked my laptop to make sure it still had an internet connection. I double checked that allow sharing of the internet connection was still checked. I tried a different, newer, crossover cable...still no internet. I ran the network diagnostics to see what it had to say about the problem and excuse me for not being exact as I didn't write it down but I recieved the error of your computer is correctly configured but there is no response from the DNS. I've tried manually entering the IP4 on the client, not sure if that would've helped anyway but nothing else worked, and I'm just really not sure what else to do. It worked fine for all that time just to suddenly stop. Any suggestions?

    For both machines ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

    ICS is not now enabled ("IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No").

Your laptop appears to be connected to a router, so my suggestion is to make sure ICS is disabled on the wireless connection and then in Network Connections bridge the wireless and ethernet. Unless the router has a certain bug that usually works better than ICS anyhow.

Else disable the ICS from the wireless, "OK" back out of those settings/properties pages, reboot, and re-enable ICS on the wireless to see if that gets it working again.

Thank you!!!!!! I had no option but to connect through the wireless router and the LCD is going out on my laptop but the desktop doesn't have a wireless card. I'm a complete fish out of water when it comes to networking. That was always my ex husbands area. I built the computer systems he hooked them together. But it's working now!! Can't thank you enough!

So, basically you are using the laptop as a wireless card for the desktop! :)
