I was trying to burn some files I have, but having no luck. I saved what I had to my desktop and then I had TONS of .IDX files on my desktop. The subject is apprently what that extension is linked to.....so I did a search on my hard drive and I found TONS more.....think it's ok to delete them?

    Thanks!

    Hiya

It depends on where the idx files are. Are they on your desktop, or in various folders in Windows Explorer?

Windows may be using some of them, or may be needed by other programs.

    Regards

All of a sudden they just appeared on my desktop....and I had saved some "burning" stuff there also around the same time so I just thought it was related. I thought the one I looked at said something about real player....so who knows....

    Thanks,
    Rob

If you rightclick and select Properties on some of them, does it say what they are used with?

If they're just on your desktop, you could move them to the Recycle bin, but don't delete them. Restart, and use the pc for a few days as normal. If nothing untoward happens, delete them.

You may also want to run a quick virus scan:

    Also, how many are there?

OOPS.....They rae all gone.....there was over 100 of them.

I know that the few that I checked said something about real player....

I just did a scan a day before they showed up....I have no probs so I guess I didn't need them.

    Thanks!

This has happened to me again. This time it created 771 .IDX files and it says Unknown Application. The files start out at CA00.IDX and then it goes up to CTUC.IDX. I open it with notepad and this is all they have in them: TIDX รจ They are all exactly the same....onlt 1kb in size. Lets see, I was trying to undelete some files, but I had them save to a folder on my D drive so I have no idea why these are popping up on my desktop.

Just thought I'd let ya's know more details.

    Thanks!

Eddie, nope...that was essentially about how to get rid of the icons off your desktop and I know how to do that. I did drop Bob an email to see what caused that & if he fixed that problem. Geez, I hate to say this, but maybe I should read some instruction on it....LOL

    Thanks!
