Windows 98SE Internet Explorer 5.5 Hi , I got a problem that just started. If I click on the drop down arrow in the adress box Internet Explorer 5.5 freezes. Everything elts works fine ( eg. search, favorites) Right now I have 5 IE browsers minimized and they are all froze up because I clicked in the drop down arrow in the address box. I have rebooted and run scan disc. It's still doing it . Any ideas why IE 5.5 keeps freezin up?
    Thanks !

Hi Acacandy, no I never tried a repair but I will now. It's wierd because I used the net for quite a while last night and everything was fine. I booted it up tonight and now I get this problem. I'll try the repair

Acacandy, I just reinstalled IE5.5 and it still locks the browswer when I click the drop down arrow on the address box. My virus scanner dat files are up to date but to be safe I'm running a virus scan while I type this . I'll let you know the results.

Also, just for fun, you might think about upgrading to IE 6......

And can you download hijack this and run a scan......post your results

try clearing your history as well. May be a corrupt URL in there.

    tools/internet options/general tab/clear history

if all else fails think about spyware? Get adaware and scan system if you d/l a lot of music of click on a lot of emal and adverb links. Can act just like viruses and cause freeze ups. I cleaned a mcahine yesterday with 213 processes running in the background using up 98% of the system resources.

    Fix those.

    This one you decide:

    Gwmdmmsg GWMdmMsg.exe

(Gateway) Gateway Modem Messaging Application. Background task installed with the drivers for Gateway modems on Gateway PCs.

    Recommendation :
We have no idea as to what it really does. However, in our experience, disabling this task has no adverse effect whatsoever on the operation of your Gateway modem.

This one appears to be a trojan:
