    Hi,

I am on my wifes laptop and having problems with it. The problem is I can not load any web page using IE 7. It had been working fine then all of a sudden a few weeks ago it got to where nothing will load using IE. I can't even get to the windows update site by clicking the link on the automatic update tab after right clicking my computer and selecting properties.

I am currently using firefox. Which normally that is all I use, firefox, but at times I like to use IE which is why I am trying to figure out what is wrong.

I have check the settings to make sure I am not working offline. Other than that I am not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check your firewall to see if IE got blocked.

Hi, Sorry I forgot to mention that in the first post. Yes, I have checked my firewall and IE does show to have access.

    Try this

    Download\install CleanUp.
    --------------------------
    http://www.stevengould.org/downloads/cleanup/CleanUp451.exe

    Launch CleanUp,then click on 'Options'.
Now move the slider on the left up to 'Standard Cleanup!'.
Click 'Ok',now run the program by clicking on the 'Cleanup' button.
    Reboot,or log off/log on when it's finished.

I suggest against downloading an unknown application and pointing it at your machine.

that is a perfectly safe application & had been used by many people

however ALL automatic cleanup tools need careful handling as they can sometimes remove the wrong files http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/ warnings are given by the author to be careful

    back to main problem

go to here and download 'Hijack This!' self installer. Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu.
Click on the entry in start menu to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Thank you all for the responses. I deleted all the temp files and offline content from internet options but still a no go with getting IE to load anything. Also I have ran Ad-aware and also VG Antispyware.

Here is my HJT log if someone could take a look and respond back.

Run hijackthis, put a tick in the box beside these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:8080

then open IE/tools/options/connections/ select your connection & uncheck use a proxy server

    see if that cures it

I wouldn't have a clue what caused it but it was a misconfigured proxy

It sometimes happens when a new program is installed but frequently it is user error
