I had an issue where IE7 would not open. I restored it and it seems ok however I cannot click on certain buttons and when it says that my browser will redirect me...it doesn't.

Do I maybe have some settings wrong?

For example if I go here
http://support.intuit.ca/quickbooks/index.jsp#

I cannot click on select a product....it doesn't work. If I select a heading at the top then it is fine.

When I logged on here as well it said if your browser does not rediredt click here...and I have to click as it doesn't move.

Also video's don't work. You tube just sits on a black screen.

I just tried searching around to see what other buttons don't work but so far everything is ok. Maybe it is just that site?

The Intuit button in particular seems Java related.
Do you have Java installed? I wonder if restoring IE wiped out any add-ons. Like Java and Flash.
Flash is normally required to view the YouTube videos.

Ah ok that makes sense. I will give that a try on Monday.

Thanks so much :)

Ok so I downloaded Java with no problems and it is up to date. When I went to update flash though it would not work. When I clicked download the screen flashed and nothing happened. I did download it though from another site so that way did work. So they are both installed and updated. I also cleared my cookies/files etc. and restarted.

My issue is still ongoing though. I can not even load the windows update page, it is blank. I thought I could update to make sure I had what I needed. So if you have any other suggestions that would be great :)

Well that is sort of what started my problem. I was having issues with my email and came to this froum to get help and when I did a box popped up asking me to upgrade to IE8. I did that and since then I have had nothing but issues. The page wouldn't open at all and I had to do a system restore. This is my dad's work computer so I have to be careful what I do. He doesn't know there have even been issues so I am trying to fix it before he finds out ;)

here is the link to my previous issues leading up until now: http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/918753-solved-ie-7-wont-stay.html

So while I was waiting I tried to install IE8 again and as soon as I did I could no longer open my browser. It would flash just like it did before and nothing loaded. So I uninstalled it once again and I am back to IE7.

So in a nutshell, a system restore fixed it last time but now problems are resurfacing?

System restore fixed part of it I guess. Before I couldn't load any page in IE it would just flash and disappear. After system restore I could use IE7 BUT the issues are still with windows update and I still cannot click on certain buttons like on the intuit.ca page. Even now when I open IE it opens on a blank page that says Custom Your Setting On the tab and the link is http://runonce.msn.com/runonce3.aspx. I have to actually hit the home button to get to my home page now.

So although it works for some pages not all and I need the updates and that Intuit site. Also my browser does not redirect me automatically so I always have to click to redirect which I never had to do before. I cannot go any further in system restore because we just installed an account program on the 15th. I restore to the 16th.

I am about to lose my mind. I have tried internet searches and done what they have suggested as well but I am coming up with nothing. IE is a fresh install so it should work.

You posted a HijackThis log last time right? But it was removed due to your father's wishes. Would you be able to post a new one? I can always remove it for you afterwards.

Did you once use Avast but now use Trend Micro?

Do you have the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool running?

Run Hijack This and click Open the Misc Tools section.
Click Open Uninstall Manager > Save list and save the log to your Desktop.
A list of programs will open in Notepad. Post the contents of this log.

This is definitely an interesting problem.

IE is a fresh install. Is Java and Flash too?

I don't know if this will do the trick but let's give this a try (unless you have already)

Start-->Run-->
regsvr32 jscript

Start-->Run-->
regsvr32 vbscript

Start-->Run-->
regsvr32 /i mshtml

You know what. I am not 100% if it is a fresh install. I mean I had IE7, upgraded to IE8 had all the issues so I did a system restore and was still having issues so I uninstalled IE8 and restored again. Once I restored IE7 was fine. I never actually went in a uninstalled IE7 because it was not listed in the add/remove. Could that be the issue and have I just wasted your time ? :eek: There has just been so much back and forth I have gotten a wee bit confused as to what I have and haven't done!

I will try to actually uninstall it and reinstall. If that doesn't work I will do as you suggested below. I am so sorry if I have wasted your time.
